CO2 Fractional Laser Treatment
CO2 Fractional Laser Treatments are used to resurface the skin in order to reduce the appearance of age spots, fine lines, and skin texture.
One of the biggest anti-aging, non-surgical breakthroughs in the last few years is CO2 Fractional Laser Treatment. CO2 Laser resurfacing is the process of removing the outermost layer of skin, revealing smoother, more luminous skin. CO2 Fractional Laser resurfacing is one of the most loved treatments at the Appearance Center of Newport Beach due to ease of procedure and amazing results.
Ablative vs. Non-Ablative Lasers
Ablative lasers usually target the top layer of skin which typically manifest by light scabbing or crusting. Non-ablative lasers target their energy under the skin which does not manifest in visible marks, so patients may tend to heal more quickly; however, because non-ablative lasers are not as harsh, 3-4 treatment sessions are usually needed to achieve desired results. Ablative lasers, like the CO2 laser, usually provide desired results after 1-2 treatment sessions.
The CO2 Fractional Laser Treatment uses a laser beam and fractionates the single beam into thousands of smaller beams. This is why the procedure is called a Fractional Laser Treatment. Those smaller beams penetrate into deep layers of the skin stimulating collagen, the naturally occurring chemical that is in charge of cellular turnover. The skin, with the help of collagen, excretes the old damaged skin and replaces it with brighter, new skin. Since the CO2 treatment penetrates deeper than other skin resurfacing treatments, it is good at improving the appearance of wrinkles, sun damage, and scarring.

CO2 Procedure and Experience
The total time for the procedure will depend on the areas that you and your physician have decided to treat and the strength of the laser setting those areas require.
Every patient is numbed with a topical ointment before a CO2 treatment. Numbing should account for an additional 20 to 30 minutes of your time.
After your treatment has concluded, your Appearance Center surgeon will escort you to a recovery area, where you will speak with our medical esthetician and medical assistants about aftercare. Post treatment is a wonderful time to really pay attention to and incorporate the benefits of quality skin health products. There are some things you will want to avoid, such as overly scented lotions, which may cause irritation, and there are some things you may love to consider incorporating into your routine. Post treatment is an optimal time to nourish the skin for maximum results and a vibrantly youthful complexion.
How Long Do Results Last?
If you are maintaining proper skin health, you should be able to see the amazing effects for a few years. Wearing wide brimmed hats, applying sunscreen daily, and generally staying out of the sun will prolong the effects of your CO2 treatment for years to come.
To improve your immediate results, our physicians often recommend combining your IPL treatment with a healing oxygen treatment. Our Intraceuticals Oxygenation Treatments are well known in the skincare industry for promoting skin health through the infusion of vitamins, oxygen, and anti-microbials.
Recovery time for a CO2 Fractional Laser Treatment varies for each patient depending on the results they are looking for and the laser settings needed to achieve those results. On average, recovery can take anywhere from a few days to a week. A lighter CO2 treatment recovery time can be about 4-5 days of swelling with a couple additional days of pink skin. A more aggressive treatment may have a bit of redness persisting for longer. Usually the skin will peel and feel sunburned, but should begin healing within a week.
