Skin Treatments

Skin care treatments administered by our providers offer advanced correction of fine lines and wrinkles, discoloration, uneven texture, and skin laxity. These skin care treatments will provide patients with softer, smoother, and more even-toned skin.

For More Even, Beautiful, And Refined Skin

Our skin is the largest organ in the body and the most visible indicator of our age and overall health. Over time, our skin begins to change but there are several treatments to bring the skin back to its optimal state.

Results often depend on the products or method of intervention and the intensity of the treatment. In general, treatments administered by a board certified plastic surgeon, dermatologist, or PA are typically more invasive than treatments administered by an esthetician or alternative type of skin care professional. This makes them ideal for difficult or advanced skin conditions.

If you are interested in skin rejuvenation, Appearance Center providers can help. They will listen to your concerns, your cosmetic goals, and your lifestyle habits to determine the best treatment course with the most appropriate downtime and results. As a result, you will look and feel your best.

CO2 Fractional Laser

Indications: photodamaged skin, fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars

How it works: The fractional CO2 laser creates micro punctures in the skin while also delivering thermal energy to the skin. The micro punctures remove damaged tissue and stimulates tissue shrinkage  while the thermal (heat) energy induces collagen production. Collagen remodeling continues to occur 3-6 months after laser resurfacing.

Recovery: This will depend on how aggressive your treatment is. You will have a raw pink face for up to a month. Depending on your healing, you may be able to wear makeup after 1 week.

VBEAM TREATMENTS

Indications: Rosacea, redness, telangiectasia, spider veins, stretch marks, hyperpigmentation, hemangiomas, acne, warts, psoriasis, red scars.

How it works: The V-beam laser is a pulsed dye laser that targets blood vessels and vascular lesions. It works by absorbing oxyhemoglobin, essentially dissolving the small red vascular lesions.

Recovery: The treated area may become more red or bruised initially after treatment. Bruising may occur, which will subside in 7-10 days. You may experience burning, blistering or tingling sensations, which can be treated with topical products.

Microneedling

Indications: Uneven skin tone, acne, scarring, melasma, hyperpigmentation, light to medium skin tones.

How it works: Microneedling is exactly as it sounds, micro (small) needles that puncture the superficial layer of the skin. By disrupting the architecture of the skin, collagen and elastin expression and deposition is induced, thus resulting in brighter, tighter, younger looking skin. We also use a growth factor serum that gets infused into the skin with the needle punctures that helps further aid collagen production.

Recovery: For the first 3-5 days your skin may be pink-red, similar to a bad sunburn. Avoid sun exposure  for one week after treatment. Do not apply makeup for 2-3 days. We will provide you with specific post-treatment instructions.

Physician Administered Chemical Peels And Microdermabrasion

Chemical peels and microdermabrasion are used to remove the outermost layers of skin. The skin then naturally regenerates, healing itself, and leaving behind softer, more even skin.

VIPeel (Chemical Peel)

Indications: Uneven skin tone, acne, melasma, hyperpigmentation, all skin tones.

How it works: Your skin is cleaned and prepped in the office. Multiple applications of a trichloroacetic acid (TCA) peel, with additional ingredients targeting specific skin concerns, are applied by your provider. You will go home with additional TCA peel wipes to apply at home and ensure optimal results

Recovery: For the first 3-5 days your skin may be pink-red, similar to a bad sunburn. You may experience light peeling for several days as your skin regenerates. Avoid sun exposure  for one week after treatment. Do not apply makeup for approximately 1 week. We will provide you with specific post-treatment instructions.

Physician Administered Chemical Peel

Physician administered peels will be stronger and more effective than chemical peels purchased in a store or administered by an esthetician. These peels are medically administered to create a controlled chemical burn on the skin. Similar to when a reptile peels, as the old, damaged skin peels from our face and neck, new, glowing, and beautiful skin is revealed. Physician administered chemical peels help with the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, the appearance of brown spots and sun damage, and help with skin tightening to a limited degree.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion generally works best for skin requiring focused treatments, such as seen in facial scarring from chickenpox, acne, or skin cancer. During microdermabrasion, a hand-held electronic tool, affixed with a diamond or wire brush tip, removes damaged or scarred layers of skin to allow for the growth of new skin. The outcome of dermabrasion is dramatic as well as long-lasting.

Hydrafacials

HydraFacial is a non-invasive, multi step treatment designed to cleanse, exfoliate, and infuse the skin with antioxidants, hyaluronic acid, and peptides.

HydraFacial incorporates the techniques and benefits of microdermabrasion, chemical peel, and extraction, while gently hydrating the skin in the process. The procedure is quick, effective, and offers no downtime.

Because of its gentle and effective nature, Hydrafacial is a great treatment to incorporate days before an event or leading up to a big event in multiple sessions. Conditions that are often improved with this treatment include hyperpigmentation, clogged and enlarged pores, and uneven tone and texture.

FAQs About Skin Treatments

For some skin tones, skin rejuvenation techniques will be limited less abrasive methods. Typically, treatments like microneedling, infini, and PRP are great for all skin types. In order to tell if you are a candidate for a skin treatments, schedule a consultation with an Appearance Center surgeon. We will help you determine the best treatment course for beautifully refreshed skin.

Skin treatments range drastically from one to another. Some skin treatments, like a very intense CO2 treatment, will actually require sedation and a driver. You will probably need to rest after a treatment like this, and healing will take 10 - 14 days. Other treatments are in office procedures, and take a day or so to be at their peak, before they start to gradually get better in appearance. In most cases, your skin will be red, peeling, and perhaps scabbing during recovery, so you will want to choose a time that you can be selective with your daily activities. Your surgeon will explain information about the details of your recovery in more detail before you commit to scheduling.

Our most popular seasons for skin treatments are during the winter, spring, and fall, when the sun is not at its peak. However, skin treatments can be done at any time, providing the patient is confident in their ability to avoid direct contact with sunlight. The skin is fairly sensitive after a skin treatment, and may be susceptible to increased damage. Additionally, results will not last as long if patients go into the sun after treatment. For more specific questions about your optimal time for a skin treatment, consult with one of our board certified surgeons.
