Facial Volume Enhancement
The surgical enhancement of facial volume offers a more permanent approach to fat loss caused by aging. Volume enhancement can be applied to the cheeks, eyelids, lips and other areas of the face for a more supple, healthy, and youthful appearance.
Long Lasting Solutions for A Youthful Appearance
As we age, our body produces less collagen and elastin and beings to suffer from fat atrophy - this is the loss or displacement of fat in our face and bodies. As the tissue in our face dissipates, we begin to take on a hollow, frail, and aged appearance. Many people begin to seek expert solutions for long lasting results.
There are several ways to achieve long lasting facial volume enhancement. Patients will want to have a personal consultation with one of our expertly trained cosmetic surgeons to determine which method is best for them.
Patients who incorporate facial volume enhancement in their cosmetic surgery benefit from the following results:
- A more youthful, supple, and balanced facial appearance
- A decrease in the visibility of moderate to severe wrinkles
- Improved facial contouring
- Feeling "recognizable" or "back to themselves again"
- Improved self esteem
If you feel you may benefit from facial volume enhancement, speak with one of our board certified facial plastic surgeons. They will help you choose the right procedures for your personal cosmetic goals.
Fat Transfer
Fat transfer is a surgical procedure that permanently restores fat in the face. Fat is typically harvested from the abdomen, flanks, or hips with liposuction. The fat is spun in a centrifuge, then injected carefully beneath the skin in areas where aging and atrophy have caused hollowing.
Fat transfer is frequently combined with other surgical procedures such as:
- Fat transfer with facelift - for a youthful restoration of the skin and contours of the face
- Fat transfer with eyelid surgery - for a soft, natural, and replenished appearance
- Fat transfer with mini facelift - for a more conservative and long lasting approach to facial rejuvenation
Patients who are candidates for fat transfer will have moderate to severe volume loss in the face, may be interested in additional surgical procedures, and are looking for long term results.
Appearance Center facial plastic surgeons are experts in facial anatomy and facial contouring. They will discuss your specific cosmetic goals to determine whether fat transfer is an option for you.
Cheek Augmentation
Cheek augmentation is a permanent solution to volume loss or lack of volume in the cheeks. Cheek augmentation is achieved through implants and can help provide patients with a more balanced and healthy looking facial contours.
Cheek augmentation can be completed separately or in addition to alternative surgical procedures. The procedure will take place under anesthesia through a small incision inside the mouth. If a patient is combining this procedure with eyelid surgery, the implant can be inserted through incisions in the eyelid.
Patients who are candidates for cheek implants will have flattened cheeks or minimal cheek fat.
An Appearance Center facial plastic surgeon will listen to your cosmetic goals and determine whether cheek augmentation through implantation is the right solution for you.
Surgical Lip Enhancement
Surgical lip enhancement is a cosmetic procedure used to augment or change the shape and size of the lips. Sometimes the procedure is referred to as a "lip lift."
With this procedure, thinner lips can be repositioned at the vermilion line to present a fuller, more prominent upper lip.
Patients who are candidates for surgical lip enhancement will have thin lips, and will not be candidates for complete correction through nonsurgical lip enhancement with hyaluronic acid fillers.
If you believe you are a candidate for lip enhancement, an Appearance Center facial plastic surgeon will help you determine whether surgical lip enhancement is right for you.
FAQs About Facial Volume Enhancement
Yes. Fat transfer is very helpful for some eyelid surgeries. It helps restore the natural contouring of the eyelids, providing a natural and youthful looking solution to eye bags and wrinkles.
Both procedures will help elevate, volumize, and contour the cheek.
Fat transfer uses the body's own fat to restore or provide a youthful appearance anywhere in the face. Fat can be placed in the area of the eyes, the cheeks, or wherever the physicians deems necessary.
Cheek augmentation with implantation requires the use of a plastic implant that sits directly on the cheek bone. The cheek implant is only intended to provide volume to the cheek.
For most physicians, deciding between fat transfer and cheek augmentation with an implant is a question of preference, patient candidacy, and desired results.
Speak with your surgeon to determine which method of volumization is best for you.
Depending on you specific facial anatomy and esthetic goals, surgical lip enhancement may help with some of the wrinkling around the mouth. The best treatments for that area however, are nonsurgical skin care treatments such as lip filler, dermabrasion, laser resurfacing, chemical peel, microneedling, and radiofrequency, devices such as Infiny. Your surgeon will help you determine which option will work best for your specific concerns.
