Facial Volume Enhancement

Fat Transfer

Fat transfer is a surgical procedure that permanently restores fat in the face. Fat is typically harvested from the abdomen, flanks, or hips with liposuction. The fat is spun in a centrifuge, then injected carefully beneath the skin in areas where aging and atrophy have caused hollowing. Fat transfer is frequently combined with other surgical procedures such as:

  • Fat transfer with facelift – for a youthful restoration of the skin and contours of the face
  • Fat transfer with eyelid surgery – for a soft, natural, and replenished appearance
  • Fat transfer with mini facelift – for a more conservative and long lasting approach to facial rejuvenation

Patients who are candidates for fat transfer will have moderate to severe volume loss in the face, may be interested in additional surgical procedures, and are looking for long term results.

Yes. Fat transfer is very helpful for some eyelid surgeries. It helps restore the natural contouring of the eyelids, providing a natural and youthful looking solution to eye bags and wrinkles.

Both procedures will help elevate, volumize, and contour the cheek.

Fat transfer uses the body’s own fat to restore or provide a youthful appearance anywhere in the face. Fat can be placed in the area of the eyes, the cheeks, or wherever the physicians deems necessary.

Cheek augmentation with implantation requires the use of a plastic implant that sits directly on the cheek bone. The cheek implant is only intended to provide volume to the cheek.

For most physicians, deciding between fat transfer and cheek augmentation with an implant is a question of preference, patient candidacy, and desired results.

Depending on you specific facial anatomy and esthetic goals, surgical lip enhancement may help with some of the wrinkling around the mouth. The best treatments for that area however, are nonsurgical skin care treatments such as lip filler, dermabrasion, laser resurfacing, chemical peel, microneedling, and radiofrequency, devices such as Infiny. Your surgeon will help you determine which option will work best for your specific concerns.
