Patients seeking to alter the appearance of their eyes for age related or esthetic reasons often find that eyelid surgery is the most effective and long-lasting solution. While there are several options for nonsurgical eyelid rejuvenation, eyelid surgery will precisely and carefully reposition the delicate skin and muscle tissue around the orbital structure to permanently achieve a refreshed, rejuvenated, and refined appearance. There are several reasons Appearance Center patients seek out our cosmetic eyelid specialists. The most common are listed below.
Signs of aging in the upper and lower eyelid stem from two key factors: the body’s tendency to produce less collagen and elastin in the skin, and the body’s tendency to lose or displace fat as we age. In the upper eyelid, aging is marked by a heavy brow and sagging or looseness in the skin above the lash line. In extreme cases upper eyelid skin can droop over the lash line. This is referred to as “hooding.” In the lower eyelid, aging is marked by moderate to severe wrinkling, excess skin, hollowing and heaviness beneath the eye. Hollowing and heaviness often create what is commonly referred to as “eye bags.” Appearance Center eyelid surgeons can help patients rejuvenate their tired and aging eyelids, safely, and with great finesse and attention to detail. This level of expertise is imperative when surgically altering this very delicate and sensitive area of the face. Procedures recommended for surgical eyelid rejuvenation include one or more of the following:

Cosmetic eyelid surgery is an elective procedure. Insurance does not cover elective surgery. In some instances, though, eyelid surgery can serve a functional purpose. These are in extreme cases of eyelid hooding, where the eyelids are physically blocking or impairing vision. There are specific medical steps to complete to see whether a patient is a candidate for partial insurance coverage. For more information speak with one of our eyelid surgeons at an individualized consultation.
Yes. Appearance Center surgeons are extremely skilled in both eyelid reconstruction and eyelid revision surgery. In fact, a large portion of their patients are referred from other physicians in the local Orange County area who trust that our surgeons will handle the most complicated cases of eyelid treatment with great finesse and consideration.
There are a few scenarios that our specialists will see in regards to revision eyelid surgery. The two most common are patients who had an eyelid surgery several years prior, and patients who are dissatisfied with a recent eyelid surgery.
Since we never stop aging, patients who had surgery several years prior, are typically simply ready for additional upkeep and maintenance.
For Patients who have had a surgery they are dissatisfied with, they are in particular need of a specialist who can provide them with the best treatment possible. There are several factors that our surgeons must consider when creating a customized plan for correction of a previous surgery. For these patients, it is imperative to find an eyelid specialist with experience, skill, and knowledge of the anatomy of the eyelid.
