Kick Your Skin Into Gear Starting NOW with These 3 Must-See Skin Treatments.
1. Physician Administered Chemical Peels
Chemical Peels are used to remove the outermost layers of dry, dull, and damaged skin. Peels can be administered to most types of skin by a physician or an experienced medical esthetician. Chemical peels vary in makeup and strength, the stronger, more potent peels, being administered by a physician.
When a peel is applied to the skin, the combination of chemicals targets the outermost layers, triggering them to peel, flake, or slough off in large sheets. Similar to a reptile in the summer, the elimination of the outer layers of skin, reveals new, brighter, and more rejuvenated skin beneath.
Chemical peels will help to reduce the appearance of fine lines, discoloration from sun damage, and old, dry, and dull skin. A heavier or more invasive peel is a great treatment for the transition from winter to spring, as it will leave your skin looking renewed and vibrant.
2. Microneedling with PRP
Microneedling is one of our favorite Appearance Center skin treatments. It requires the use of a device to penetrate the skin, creating micro-injuries, which triggers the skin to generate extra collagen and elastin.
Like a chemical peel, microneedling is intended for the improvement of the overall appearance of the skin and it can be done by both a cosmetic surgeon and a medical esthetician. A medical esthetician’s treatment will not penetrate the skin as deeply as a physician’s treatment, however, regular microneedling with an esthetician for skin health maintenance is highly recommended in our practice.
Microneedling is almost always performed in conjunction with the administration of a growth factor serum. There are many kinds of growth factor on the market, but one of our absolute favorites is Platelet Rich Plasma, also called PRP.
PRP is extracted directly from the patient’s body and is used to enhance regeneration during the skin’s natural healing process. To get PRP, the patient’s blood is drawn by a registered nurse, the blood is spun in a machine called a centrifuge, and the separated blood plasma is applied to the skin.
Microneedling with PRP will help reduce the appearance of enlarged pores, fine lines, and wrinkles, and provide an overall smoother, tighter, and brighter complexion.
3. CO2 Fractional Laser Treatment
CO2 fractional laser treatments are a wonderful way to combat severe skin damage, deep wrinkles, and moderate to severe discoloration. CO2 fractional laser treatments can be administered to the skin at a variety of levels of intensity, so the treatments can be customized to offer any variation between a light resurfacing and a heavy, deep, or more invasive resurfacing.
In general, CO2 fractional laser treatments penetrate the skin in a pattern or grid, obliterating tiny pinpoint areas of the deeper layers of the skin. Similar to when grass is aerated, the penetrated areas of the skin will aid in the production of new, fresh, and revitalized skin.
CO2 fractional laser treatment is a more intense skin treatment, which will require a certain amount of downtime. Your cosmetic surgeon will discuss anticipated downtime and help you plan for your recovery based on the customize treatment plan he recommends.
CO2 fractional laser treatment helps to completely resurface the skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines and moderate to severe wrinkles and discoloration. Additionally, CO2 fractional laser treatment will help tighten and brighten the skin for a more youthful and supple glow.
